For plywood subfloors, be sure that the wood is at least 1 and 1/8 inches thick and is supported by an equally strong underlayment. Otherwise, your ceramic tiles will dislodge easily, or worse, break and need replacing. Concrete floors are the most ideal subfloor surface to work with. But before you can start installing ceramic tile flooring over it, it must be cleaned thoroughly. For dust and other debris, sweep and then mop your concrete subfloor surface, and allow it to dry completely. Smooth concrete surfaces must be rough sanded just like vinyl floors to allow the tiling mortar some grip.

Braided rugs are a great addition to any home that wants a comfortable feel but not too formal looking. Braided rugs are self explanatory, it’s three strips of fabric braided together and then woven into a pattern, usually circular. For an oval rug the center braid should be one inch longer than the width-length in feet. Braided rugs are extremely sturdy, long wearing, comfortable to walk on and are usually easy to care for. A glance in any department store catalog will give you several options to choose from. Some require professional cleaning, others are spot clean, others require spills be sponged up quickly. Today’s rugs are usually reversible so you get double life out of them. When one side is stained too badly or starts looking rough, just turn it over.
Country style floor plans represent the quintessential farmhouses that we have so often seen in the movies. Country homes are planned in such a way as to feel comfortable. The floor plan of a country home delivers a rustic and relaxing atmosphere - it doesn’t matter where it is built. They are characterized by roomy porches and large kitchens which are situated right next to the family room. Some country houses have steep roofs and irregular layouts. Still others have a front face that is not symmetrical, a pitched roof and a spacious front porch. The ranch floor plan is conventional and matter-of-fact. The roofs are low pitched with a large garage attached to the house. Ranch homes are single-storied. Split-level floor plans are not unusual. The façade is brick or wooden, with large windows. Ranch homes typically have an L-shaped hall which combines the living room and dining room into one area, with a hallway leading to the family room and a group of bedrooms all on one side of the house. A patio at the back with a glass sliding door leading to it is not unusual for a ranch house.
Got land? Before you spend too much time browsing floor plan possibilities, you need to know where that home will be built. Not all floor plan designs are suited for all building sites. For instance, a walk-out basement typically requires a home being built on a slope or recessed into a hillside. Additionally, some plans are designed to take advantage of the home’s location relative to sunlight so even if you already own your land, you will want to know where and how your home will be positioned on your property. Once you have an idea of where those logs will be stacked it’s time to figure out what that stack needs to look like.
