By and large, almost any residential floor plan can be adapted to a log home, but there are substantial differences and considerations that need to be addressed. One such example is that of room dimensions as they relate to the diameter of the logs you will be utilizing. A custom handcrafted home made from 20\" diameter logs will have a different footprint than one requiring 6\" milled logs. If this is the first time you will be dealing with a log home manufacturer or architect, make sure you are comparing ’apples to apples’ when discussing interior dimensions. If you want a room to be 14’ wide, make certain that your designer knows that you want the interior of the room to have 14’ of open clearance and not measured from the center of the corresponding logs. Using the example above, your 14’ room could shrink to 12’ if such presumptions are not understood.
Rugs are common in homes that are mostly wood floors because they provide a soft floor covering and extra warmth on cold hardwood floors. They’re also helpful in kitchens that have linoleum surfaces as they provide a more comfortable place to stand. But rugs do not all work the same so you’ll want to get the best one for the room. That means looking at both the decor, the rug’s thickness, its price and its durability (including cleaning instructions). A popular option today is braided rugs.
Measure Everything. The next step of your ceramic tile flooring installation is the accurate measuring of your floor and your tiles. This is necessary for you to be able to calculate exactly how many tiles you will need. You must measure the length and width of the section of floor you are going to tile and also the length and width of each tile. Then you must calculate, using these numbers, exactly how many tiles you are going to use, which will depend on the orientation of each tile as you have decided to place it on the floor, as well. Then you must find the mid-points of the length and the width of the floor you want to carry out your ceramic tile flooring installation process on; connect these midpoints to form a plus across the floor space. The intersection of the two lines of the plus is the center of your floor space; it is here that you must begin your ceramic tile flooring installation.
Sometimes only small adjustments need to be made, a mere few feet, to move a desk from a negative zone to a positive zone, but we can’t know that without an accurate floor plan. Another piece of practical advice I routinely give clients are the yearly zones to be wary of in terms of remodeling or accidents. For example, in the year 2012, the direction of southeast will be very accident-prone. If I have a client who wants to remodel their kitchen in that location and that year, we might consider postponing it or doing some specific counter-measures to diffuse the volatility of that area. But if we aren’t working with an accurate floor plan, then we could misinterpret where a directional zone is within a house. All of these theories apply to commercial spaces as well.
With advancements and innovations in home design as well as expanding creativity and style, tile flooring ideas now go beyond the bathroom and the kitchen. In the more traditional days, tiles were only used in rooms with a lot of moisture, traffic, rough and tumble. Now, you can use tiles to beautify your living room, make your bedroom more dramatic and so on. With tiles having so many different textures, colors and designs, the possibilities are also endless for tile flooring ideas.
